JIFSAN Holds New "Epidemiology for Risk Analysis" Course

JIFSAN recently piloted a two-day training entitled "Epidemiology for Risk Analysis". The course was held from June 18 to 19, 2015 as part of the Summer Integrated Program (SIP).

The sixteen participants in attendance included China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) staff, FDA fellows, and JIFSAN's summer extended fellows.

The course was co-taught by Dr. Mary Torrence of Epipic3FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied
Nutrition, Dr. Jan Sargeant of the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, and Annette O'Connor of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The three instructors covered an impressive amount of material in two days while maintaining an energetic classroom. Participants learned about measuring disease in populations, the advantages and limitations of different study designs, and sources of bias in data.

JIFSAN always aims to improve and expand its course offerings. We will pilot a second course, "Chemical Risk Assessment," later this year. To learn about this new course and others, please visit our upcoming classes page.
