JIFSAN held a Risk Analysis workshop at the Mars Global Food Safety Center (GFSC) in Beijing, China from August 7 to 11, 2017. Lead instructors Drs. Clare Narrod and Robert Buchanan introduced the 12 workshop participants to the major aspects of risk assessment, management, and communication. The workshop marked the first activity in a year-long project between JIFSAN and the Mars GFSC. The project, which will involve both classroom instruction in China and remote mentoring, aims to teach the participants how to build their own quantitative food safety risk assessment models. Over the next few months, in preparation for a quantitative modeling training tentatively scheduled for December 2017, the participants will work in teams to identify and research the subjects of their risk assessments. The teams will then develop their assessments and present their results at the GFSC in the spring of 2018.
